Desktop - Fired Up

02 Fired Up by desktop

Desktop is Keith Thompson from Electric Six and Zach Curd from The Pop Project.

Desktop is unlike Curd’s and Thompson's other projects, meeting somewhere between Stevie Wonder, New Order and 80s Detroit techno. Thompson’s thick and driving bass lines and Curd’s rich, reverb-drenched harmonies stand out as highlights of their debut self-titled EP. The EP was completely collaborative from the onset, with Thompson and Curd constantly revising each other’s contributions, at all times pushing for the goal of a better song. Thompson and Curd developed the recordings completely via the internet, never actually working on anything together in the same room.

With all the ambient, axe wielding, lo-fi experimentalists taking over the independent music limelight, Desktop have created a smart, feel-good breath of fresh air.

Keith Thompson plays in Electric Six, known for their hits "Danger! High Voltage" (UK Singles Chart #2) and "Gay Bar" (UK Singles Chart #7). Thompson also is an active member of Detroit’s Johnny Headband.

Zach Curd plays keyboards in The Pop Project, known in power-pop circles for 2008’s critically acclaimed Stars Of Stage And Screen album. Curd also heads up the Ann Arbor, MI based Suburban Sprawl Music label.

IO ECHO

IO Echo may be new to the music scene, but have entered the ring kicking and screaming opening for some of the hottest acts currently touring, just finishing up a tur with She Wants Revenge, their shaking off the road wear and getting ready to head back out again with OK Go & Jaguar Love. IO Echo's song Addicted is getting lots of airplay on college stations throughout.

IO is from the East Coast, she writes songs in a late hour in a bedroom situation...She plays the guitar and keyboards and her songs are produced by Leopold Ross (Korn / Error). He is pale and British and also plays guitar in the band...They are young, hyper, and walk on bruised knees daily...

DATAROCK ::: RED; First Single “GIVE IT UP” Available Now

April 9, 2009 (New York, NY) - Following an exciting week at SXSW that included sharing a stage with heroes DEVO, Norwegian rockers DATAROCK announce the North American release of their highly anticipated sophomore album RED on September 1, 2009.

The first single "Give It Up" -- a brilliant slice of eighties inspired rock/pop -- is available now on iTunes. Datarock has also just unveiled their rollicking new video for "Give It Up," which draws inspiration from classic duels, such as Michael Jackson "Beat It" and "Bad," the 1951 film West Side Story and the 1996 re-make of Romeo & Juliet. Check it out HERE.

GIVE IT UP

“Give It Up” was initially an idea for a music video before it became a song, the lyrics actually paraphrasing some of these famous face offs. "There is a dance off," explains frontman Fredrik Saroea, "where the Datarock gang battles the bad guys. In the end, everybody joins the Datarock gang. I'm like Mercutio, telling Romeo to shape up, snap out of it, give it up." He continues, "Thing is, just singing a song about dancing... it's too simple. Everyone's gonna dance anyway. So it's nice to do something insane in the lyrics, like paraphrasing, you know, Romeo & Juliet!"

Saroea will team up with RockYou on Tuesday, April 14 at 3:00PM PT for an up close and personal live chat with Datarock fans, who will be able to directly inquire about anything from the upcoming album to the band's love for Molly Ringwald via Meebo.com's chatroom. Saroea's responses will be streamed live through Ustream.com's video client. Fans can connect to the chat via RockYou's Super Wall Application on Facebook (http://apps.facebook.com/superwall/backstage.php).
